SOUTH KOREA TO BUILD TOWERS INVOKING 9/11 MEMORIES…

MVRDV built a tower that has a clear 9/11-like appearance. Gizmodo reported it this morning, and, admittedly, the design invokes memories of the two big towers collapsing.
Since it has hit the internet, design company MVRDV has issued an apology: “MVRDV regrets deeply any connotations The Cloud projects evokes regarding 9/11. The Cloud was designed based on parameters such as sunlight, outside spaces, living quality for inhabitants and the city. It is one of many projects in which MVRDV experiments with a raised city level to reinvent the often solitary typology of the skyscraper. It was not our intention to create an image resembling the attacks nor did we see the resemblance during the design process. We sincerely apologize to anyone whose feelings we have hurt, it was not our intention.”
Whatever people are saying, the concept is pretty neat. It reminds me of a famous set of apartments debuted at the World’s Fair called Habitat 67, which is what I would assume was MVRDV’s actual inspiration for the build.

Habitat 67′s incredible design allows each and every, idential apartment to have 3 exposed sides (great for sunlight), and a rooftop upon which they can grow food, or maybe own a goat. Maybe the same goes for this building in S. Korea.
